Abstract Awards
Upon submission of an abstract, participants have the opportunity to apply for the following awards:

Hening Award for New Investigators Reporting on RLS
Awards of 1,000 USD are available from the IRLSSG for young investigators (within 10 years of receiving their MD or PhD) submitting abstracts relevant to restless Legs Syndrome.
Awards are granted based on the quality of the work and acceptance of the work for oral or poster presentation at WASM 2011.
All awardees are expected to make a short presentation of their work at the IRLSSG Annual Meeting September 10, 2011 in Quebec City.

(CSS) Student and Technologist Abstract Competition, 2011 (French version follows)
Competition Rules
The competition is open to students (pre-doctoral only) and technologists who are members of the CSS at the time of submission. The deadline for submission is March 1st, 2011.
A candidate must be first author on the submitted abstract. See abstract submission guidelines below.
One student abstract and one technologist abstract will be selected by the Selection Committee. In case of a tie in either category, two prizes may be awarded. If no scientifically acceptable entries are received in one category (Student or Technologist), a second prize will be given in the other category, if appropriate.
EACH RECIPIENT WILL RECEIVE $300 AND A FREE ONE-YEAR MEMBERSHIP TO THE CSS.
Winners will be notified by April 1st, 2011. Awards will be presented at the CSS Annual General Meeting, which will be held during the conference.

Submission Guidelines
Deadline: March 1st, 2011. See the competition rules above.
Files should be sent as MS Word compatible files (i.e., saved in DOC, RTF, or TXT format) attached to an email message.
Maximum size: 1 portrait-oriented page (21.59 cm x 27.74 cm [8 1/2 x 11 inches]), 2.5 cm (1 inch) margins, 12-point character set. The abstract body (introduction, methods, results, conclusions) is limited to 300 words (same as APSS abstract submissions). The remainder of a single page should include the Title, Authors and Institutions and can include references, figures or tables. Do not use headers or footnotes. Abstracts must be in English.
Entries should include two files:
- one with the full copy of the abstract as indicated above;
- The second file “anonymized” should include only the title, text and figures/tables/references (if included), but be stripped of authors’ names, affiliations, and acknowledgments.
Anonymized abstracts will be evaluated by a Selection Committee based on the following features:
1) Originality and creativity of the study.
2) Adequacy of the literature review or background.
3) Clarity of the description of the methods.
4) Appropriateness of experimental design and analysis.
5) Quality of the discussion and conclusions.
Two abstracts (the complete and anonymized version) should be submitted by email, along with the first author's contact information, no later than midnight, March 1st, 2011. Règlements du concours
Le concours est ouvert aux étudiant(e)s (niveau pré-doctorat uniquement) et aux technologues qui sont membres de la SCS au moment de l’envoi du résumé. La date d’échéance pour soumettre les résumés est le 1 mars 2011.
Le candidat doit être le premier auteur du résumé soumis. Voir les directives de soumission des résumés ci-dessous.
Le comité de sélection choisira le résumé d’un(e) étudiant(e) et le résumé d’un(e) technicien(ne). Advenant le cas où deux résumés sont jugés équivalents dans l’une ou l’autre des catégories, deux prix pourraient être accordés. Si aucun résumé n’est acceptable d’un point de vue scientifique dans une des deux catégories (étudiant ou technicien), un deuxième prix sera remis dans l’autre catégorie, si cela est considéré approprié.

Les gagnants seront avisés avant le 1 avril 2011. Les prix seront remis lors de l’Assemblée générale annuelle de la SCS qui aura lieu durant la réunion annuelle.

Directives de soumission des résumés
Date limite : 1 mars 2011. Voir les règlements du concours ci-dessus.
Les fichiers doivent être envoyés par courrier électronique en fichiers joints, dans un format compatible avec MS Word (c’est-à-dire sauvegardés en .doc, .rtf, ou .txt).
Présentation : 1 page de format vertical (21,59 cm x 27,74 cm [8 1/2 x 11 pouces]), avec marges de 2,5 cm (1 pouce), avec caractères établis à 12 points. Le corps du résumé (introduction, méthodes, résultats, conclusions) ne doit pas dépasser 300 mots (tout comme les soumissions de résumés pour l’APSS). Le reste de la page simple doit inclure le titre, le nom des auteurs ainsi que celui des institutions, et peut contenir les références, les statistiques ou les tableaux. Ne pas utiliser d’en-tête ou de notes en bas de page. Les résumés doivent être rédigés en anglais.
Les soumissions doivent inclure deux fichiers :
- Un fichier comprenant le texte complet du résumé tel qu’indiqué ci-dessus;
- Un second fichier « anonyme » qui doit inclure uniquement le titre, le texte ainsi que les statistiques, les tableaux et les références, mais sans indiquer le nom des auteurs, ni les affiliations ou les remerciements.
Les résumés anonymes seront évalués par un comité de sélection en fonction des critères suivants :
1) L’originalité et la créativité de l’étude.
2) La concordance de la revue ou de l’historique de la documentation.
3) La clarté de la description des méthodes.
4) La justesse du plan et de l’analyse expérimentales.
5) La qualité de la discussion et des conclusions.
Les deux résumés (la version complète et la version anonyme) devraient être envoyés par courrier électronique, avec les coordonnées du premier auteur, au plus tard à minuit, le 1 mars 2011. World Association of Sleep Medicine Young Investigator Award
WASM is now accepting submissions for the 2011 Young Investigator Award that will be presented at the Fourth International Congress on Sleep Medicine in Quebec City, Canada, September 10-15, 2011. Abstracts must be submitted online through the "Abstract Submission" area of the website. The criteria for the award include:
Quality of the abstract.
Financial need based with preference given to developing countries within Asia and Africa.
The number of years of training and experience within the sleep medicine field with preference given to individuals with less than 5 years of post training.
WASM’s Scientific Awards Committee will review the submitted papers for scientific quality, as well as creativity and writing style. Up to two finalists will be selected and notified by April 1, 2011. Each finalist will receive a $1,500 travel and hotel stipend along with a complimentary registration.

The Canadian Sleep Society (CSS) is sponsoring a competition for Student Travel Awards to assist with the travel expenses to the joint congress of the 4th World Association of Sleep Medicine Congress (www.wasmonline.org) and 5th Conference of the CSS (www.css.to) in Quebec City, Canada from September 10-15, 2011.
The Award: Individual travel award will vary from $300 to $500 and are intended to partially defray the costs of travel to attend the joint congress of the 4th International World Sleep Congress and 5th Conference of the CSS in Quebec City, Canada from September 10-15, 2011.

La Société canadienne du Sommeil (SCS) parraine une compétition de bourses de voyage pour les étudiants afin de les aider à défrayer les coûts associés au déplacement lors du congrès conjoint du 4ème Congrès International de Sommeil Mondial (World Association of Sleep Medicine) et la 5ème Conférence de la SCS (www.css.to) à Québec, Canada, du 10 au 15 septembre 2011. Ces prix sont possibles grâce à généreuses donations des membres de la SCS.au fonds étudiant. La SCS offrira un total de 5000 $ en bourses de voyage et nous prévoyons offrir au moins 10 bourses. Le montant alloué pour chacune des bourses sera déterminé selon le mérite scientifique du résumé et l'emplacement géographique du premier auteur. Cette compétition est ouverte tant aux membres étudiants de la SCS qu'aux membres étudiants de WASM.
La date limite de réception de votre candidature est le 1er juillet 2011.
Le prix:
Le montant des bourses individuelles de voyage variera entre 300 $ et 500 $ et est destiné à defrayer partiellement les coûts du voyage pour participer au congrès conjoint du 4ème Congrès International de Sommeil Mondial (International World Sleep Congress) et la 5ème Conférence de la SCS (http://www.css.to) à Québec, Canada, du 10 au 15 septembre 2011.
